The Catcher in the Rye #1

Well, I'm not completely sold on the book yet. It's taking a while to get into it and everything, but I hope it gets better. To be honest, I like the fact that it cusses in the book because I think it makes it more realistic. I like Holden's character, but he is, at times, very hard to understand. I'm not sure if I like Salinger's style of writing yet. It'll take some more before I figure that out, but right now I'm just kind of confused with the way he words things. I hope it picks up...

Video Assignment

I think for the most part all three of these are pretty similar. I really like the book and the ABC news interview, but the one I least like is the actual movie. I don't really like the characters in it, especially the guy playing Morrie after watching the real interview and being able to see who Morrie really was. I think the book and the interview are the most alike as far as depicting Morrie and his life. I noticed a few things in the movie that were a little different, one being when Morrie gets in his car and backs up but his legs aren't working. Overall though, I think being able to watch the two movies while reading the book has helped me understand it better and I really enjoy reading the book.

Reaction to Interview

I really enjoyed watching the video of Morrie's interview because it's kind of cool to read a book all about this guy and then be able to watch a real life interview and see the real him. In the interview I was very surprised at how happy he seemed. He acted completely normal, like nothing were wrong with him and i find it amazing that he could do that. If you look at people our age, they act very down even when they are sick, but Morrie is full of life and joy even though he has a crippling disease that he already knows will eventually kill him.

In the interview Mitch (?) say that Morrie is "fluid and free with feeling." and after watching the interview you can see that. I was very surprised with the similarity of Morrie in the book compared to the video. He talks the same way, says the same things, and amazingly that is sort of the image i had in my mind of him. Overall I liked the interview.
